Babywearing Do's and Dont’s

Do you wish you could babywear more, but it hurts your body? All the carriers look all cute and helpful, but leave you feeling like really sore? What about a longer day like our friends here--leave you grabbing for your stroller?

There are a few things to consider--that are universally helpful with all carriers to help protect your body and help you wear longer periods of time--

🌟 there shouldn't ever be pulling on your neck, even (especially) in a ring sling. If you have a strap pulling at your neck, check and see if you can wear it out over your shoulder/s .
🌟 it may not seem like it, but once you have all your straps situated, wearing baby *slightly* more snugged in tight than you'd expect always feels better--they move with you then instead of kind of opposite of you .
🌟 if baby doesn't feel like they seem comfortable, you aren't ever going to get comfortable--take a couple minutes to get them resituated because when they relax, you can more easily take the tension out of your body
🌟 if you feel like you need to physically hold the baby while you are wearing them bc they don't feel secure, you won't be comfortable--you should be able to wear them without either of your hands or arms supporting them
🌟 spread out any and all straps as big as they can be -- it helps distribute babe's weight
🌟 make sure the carrier you are using is right for your baby's age and weight and mobility
🌟 if they are on your front, they should be close enough to kiss--while this is done safety, it also helps with comfort--on your back, them situated higher is generally more comfortable
🌟 check in with your body--if you are standing funny to make it happen, like arching your low back, or pushing your pelvis forward--this is going to keep you uncomfortable.

We are super happy to help troubleshoot during your appointments. If you try these things and your body still hurts, it may be helpful to get yourself in for care as I always hurt less when my body is well taken care of going into a babywearing session.
