Soooo....yeah!... you're pregnant, but ugh---you're so dang sick. 😷 (And I know what you're thinking when you saw this pic....no I'm not pregnant!).
Lots of people have lots of opinions of what you can do, and while some of it is helpful, some only helps get rid of the nausea in the very short term, and doesn't help with the root cause of what's causing you to have it.
There are many reasons that you can have nausea during pregnancy, but I'm going to focus on two big ones that are easy to have some control over, that not a lot of people realize can make a big difference.
Two body systems that can cause trouble--decreased stomach acid/enzymes 🤑and wonky blood sugar management 🍪.
🤑The first is decreased stomach enzymes and acid--It takes a lot of energy and resources for your body to grow a human and because your body also needs a lot of resources to make your stomach juices, it is one of the areas that first gets hit with pregnancy, increased stress, or decreased sleep. Getting past those first few weeks often helps because you're body has less demands on it after the placenta and additional blood has already been made.
A couple things that help support your digestive enzymes and HCL that could be taken with meals:
-Digestive Enzymes
-HCL (yes that is hydrocholoric acid--it replaces the same acid that is in your stomach naturally-and should only be taken with food)
-Bitters--watch ingredients--some have sneaky ingredients that you shouldn't have during pregnancy
🍪The second issue is Blood Sugar (BS) crashes--when you get low blood sugar, nausea can creep in. Some easy fixes:
-stay ahead of your hunger and make sure you are eating at regular intervals
-focus on getting enough protein and fats in your diet--it's easy to want the easy energy of carbs (especially bc they are more easily digested), but protein and fats will even out your blood sugar.
-it helps to maybe add in some protein before bed to help make sure your BS doesn't crash in the night, or in the early am.
