Shape of your Pregnant Belly

Belly Shape

Did you know that the shape of your pregnant ๐Ÿคฐ๐Ÿผ belly could give some clues on our balanced your pelvis is?

Do you feel like your babe is hanging out all on one side of your tummy? While it's super common for mommas to report that "oh, baby is always way over on my left," etc, it's actually something that raises little red flags in my head to keep an eye on as the pregnancy progresses.

Check out this cute momma's baby belly! She came in last week at 38 weeks because she started having some discomfort and wanted to 1) feel better, and 2) make sure she is biomechanically in the best possible position for babe to arrive. Smart lady! ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ

Babies don't just float ๐Ÿ around in this huge empty uterus inside of you--your uterus stretches to the size they need at the time, so that means that if baby is on the left (or right), it means your uterus also is.

The reason this is concerning is because while your uterus is fairly mobile-ish--your cervix is way more stationary. That means that any stretching or pulling of the uterus high in your abdomen can cause twisting or constricture of the tissues closest to baby's exit.

Let me say this-we don't want anything in the way of baby's exit. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ The more balanced your pelvis is, the more balanced your uterus is, the easier it is for baby to vacate when it's their time. ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿป

This is one part of our prenatal exam that I evaluate as you get closer to delivery. Even if you aren't having discomfort, if you are experiencing a feeling of sidedness of your tummy, give us a call, and we'll get you checked out. It's way easier to focus on alignment for delivery early and often!
